Tradition YCAC Eyes Repeat Victory at Tradition HKFC 10s

3 March 2024 – The stage is set for the 36th Tradition HKFC 10s, the premier invitational rugby tens tournament set to thrill spectators at the Hong Kong Football Club from Wednesday 3 - Thursday 4 April 2024. The Men's Competition will feature a formidable line-up of 12 teams, each bringing their own unique blend of skill and experience to the field. Additionally, the Women’s Competition at the Tradition HKFC 10s has been expanded, now featuring eight teams, up from five, introducing significant star power.

With the defending champions Tradition YCAC returning as favourites, following their epic victory against Samurai RFC Warriors (Now Shogun Rugby Men) in the 2023 final, they enter this year's competition with confidence. With a history of consistent success, Tradition YCAC is poised to defend their title and once again vie for the coveted Burgess-Wootten Cup.

"We eagerly anticipate our return to the Tradition HKFC 10s next month," shared Simon Ryan, Head Coach of YCAC. "Securing the Cup last year marked a significant milestone for us, especially after reaching the finals numerous times but just falling short of victory. This triumph has only fuelled our determination to defend our title. Both our players and staff are looking forward to experiencing everything the tournament has to offer once again."

Hot on their heels are the formidable runners-up from the previous year, Shogun Rugby Men. With their eyes set on redemption, Shogun Rugby Men bring a wealth of talent and experience to the field, determined to claim the championship that narrowly eluded them in 2023. Also among the favourites are the Ashbury Tropics, boasting a star-studded line-up that includes Fijian-Australian ex-international, Nemani Nadolo. Managed by English Rugby World Cup and Olympics representative, Heather Fisher, the Ashbury Tropics are primed to make a strong push for the title, backed by their formidable roster and unwavering tenacity.

Adding to the excitement are perennial contenders such as the Overseas Old Boys, renowned for their consistent performance in every HKFC Ten’s competition since 2003. This year, joined by former New Zealand professional rugby union player Lachlan Munro and Fijian talent Josefa Seutobo, the team is poised to make their mark once again. Also returning are China National Team, the China Five Stars; Hong Kong's favourites and hosts, HKFC Natixis Club; and tournament veterans Taikoo Place Scottish Exiles.

This year, the competition is further enhanced by the introduction of five debutant teams: The Papua New Guinea Men's; Pig Athletic Club Baabaas; Mourant Apache; Jiangsu Lions, and the Preseli Baba's, eagerly anticipate making their splash on the international stage at the Tradition HKFC 10s.

“We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to an impressive array of new teams joining us for this year's Tradition HKFC 10s, alongside returning veterans, including the consistently impressive 2023 champions, Tradition YCAC” stated Paul Christopher, Chair of the Tradition HKFC 10s Organising Committee. As we gear up for the 36th edition at the Club, anticipation is high for what promises to be a thrilling lead-up to the Sevens. We're grateful to all teams travelling to Hong Kong for this prestigious event and look forward to displaying the exceptional talent and sportsmanship that set apart the World’s Best 10s. See you on the pitch!"
